Communications and Cybersecurity

Development of pioneering communication and cybersecurity, sensing and energy efficiency technologies applied to vehicles and railway infrastructure

To accomplish this:

Increased available bandwidth for railway applications by up to 100x when using communication technologies such as 5G or by link aggregation

Decrease in communications latency, to achieve latencies on the order of 1ms, which will allow the development of railway applications based on wireless communications

Reduction, by more than half, of the space occupied by the monitoring data to be sent, by applying data compression techniques

Increased communications security, reducing the number of computer attacks by over 70%

Specific objectives

To design and develop a monitoring system, including sensors, geolocation devices, identifiers, embedded computing units, and respective communication and power modules

To design and develop a set of cybersecurity technologies, methodologies and procedures

To design and develop a gateway that takes advantage of existing advantages in new mobile communication technologies (backward compatible with existing GSM-R systems and other critical communication services and interfaces)

Development of an Edge Computing platform, capable of implementing different data pre-processing services including RMB modules – PPS2 Remote Monitoring Box – in a transparent way, but ensuring isolation between functions
